Clay is softened by hand and formed using a potter's wheel which is powered by foot, using age old techniques. Pieces are dried in the sun then baked in kilns that are over 200 years old. All items are hand etched and painted. The artisans live comfortably but modestly. Within the medina, there is a souk (market) where most of the artisans work. This is the center of trade for each city. Most families live with extended family and have strong family values. Moroccans are very proud of their artform.
